The hazards of silica have been know for decades, that it completely true. Francis Perkins, the first female cabinet member of the United States, serving as the fourth Secretary of Labor under Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1933-1945) was part of an exhaustive investigation of the hazards of silica and was responsible for a report issued in 1938 (almost 85 years ago) which discussed the hazards of silica and silicosis. There is a video of her discussing her report and documenting the human hazards of silica exposure. This video can be viewed at The information provided in this video and her report are still applicable today and it is a crime that we are still dealing with this hazard well over 80 years after she reported the results of her exhaustive investigation. Hopefully, we will all become aware of this hazard and maybe soon no workers will experience silicosis or the hazards of silica.
