HSA is pleased to welcome Rodulfo Castro, MS, CIH, CSP, ASP and Marion Peralta, MPH to our team of Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety Professionals.
Mr. Rodulfo Castro joins HSA at the conclusion of his service in the United States Air Force. During his role as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Occupation Health Element, he managed the occupational health technicians responsible for compliance assessments of 75 industrial work centers, developed confined space programs, oversaw ventilation baseline surveys, and provided air sampling and hazardous noise dosimetry/evaluations. Most recently he directed a Pandemic response, training 123 medical personnel and coordinating filtering-face piece respirator fit tests. While serving in Japan as a Bioenvironmental Engineering Journeyman, Mr. Castro orchestrated routine workplace assessments, identifying 489 hazards and implementing 425 controls for the 1.5k personnel stationed there. Mr. Castro was recognized as the sole enlisted Airman to achieve the CIH, CSP, and MS in Industrial Hygiene. In January 2021, he was recognized as an Air Force Medical Service Trusted Care Hero, in 2020 he was the Air Force Global Strike Command Bioenvironmental Engineering Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year, and in 2018 he was distinguished as the 18th Medical Group Airman of the Year. Mr. Marion Peralta is a recent graduate of UCLA, where he achieved his Master of Public Health in Industrial Hygiene in June 2021 and with a BS in Biochemistry from CSUSM in 2019, we are very happy to have Mr. Peralta on our team. Most recently he acted in the capacity of CSUSM’s Industrial Hygiene Intern for Safety, Health and Sustainability Services (SH&S), developing a timeline of indoor air quality (IAQ) remediation efforts and providing a qualitative assessment based on those efforts, created a training module for SH&S staff on basic ventilation principles to better prepare staff for future IAQ investigations, and assisted with indoor gas and vapor sampling using EPA method TO-15. During his role as Health and Safety Student Technician for SH&S at CSUSM, he provided industrial hygiene services that included fume hood certifications, radiation surveys, laboratory inspections, and chemical inventory management. Health Science Associates is working to expand our staff - we would like to add several more full-time positions. We are looking for an experienced California DOSH Certified Asbestos Consultants (CACs) and/or Certified Site Surveillance Technicians (SSTs) and California Department of Public Health Lead Monitors, Inspector Assessors, and/or Sampling Technicians. NIOSH 582 certification is a plus. We are particularly interested in those asbestos and/or lead professionals who are looking to increase their skill sets and become Industrial Hygienists. South Coast AQMD Rule 1466 - Dust Monitoring and Compliance
South Coast Air Quality Management District is the regulatory agency responsible for improving air quality for areas spanning across Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including the Coachella Valley. Within the South Coast AQMD region, any owner or operator conducting earth-moving activities of soil with applicable toxic air contaminants must comply with Rule 1466. The provisions in Rule 1466 include ambient PM10 monitoring, recordkeeping, dust control measures, notifications and signage.
