Dec 2011 - Howard B. Spielman presented with two honors
Howard B. Spielman, our President and Founder, was presented with two honors at the recent CIHC Conference. CIHC presented Howard with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his Outstanding Leadership and Support of the California Industrial Hygiene Council. The California State Senate further honored him with State Senate Resolution 2343 which recognizes Mr. Spielman as a pioneer in the Industrial Hygiene industry.

Spanish Language Classes Now Available
Our CDPH Lead-in-Construction Worker Initial Course in Spanish is now available and we are offering the CDPH Lead-In-Construction Continuing Education for Spanish Worker classes. We now offer a Lead Awareness (Lead Safe Work Practices), Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and Asbestos Awareness class in both English and Spanish.
Ingrid Zubieta will be providing our Spanish language courses. Ms. Zubieta comes to us from the Labor Occupational Safety and Health Program (LOSH) at UCLA where she was a EHS Specialist/Industrial Hygienist responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of comprehensive programs in Spanish and English. Those programs included hazard identification, exposure assessment, IIPP, HAZWOPER, Cal/OSHA overview, Indoor and Outdoor Heat Illness Prevention, and Green Chemistry, among others. This makes her a perfect fit to enhance Health Science Associates extensive and comprehensive services. We expect that her contributions here will help us continue to provide the high quality consistent service that people have come to expect from HSA.

Health Science Associates' NIOSH 582 equivalency course is listed as an AIHA Registry Programs LLC reviewed NIOSH 582 Equivalent course on the web listing at AIHA Registries. AIHA Registry Programs, LLC has determined that Health Science Associates course meets the requirements detailed in the AIHA Registry Programs NIOSH 582 Equivalency Course Requirements for Listing document and is considered by the AIHA Registry Programs, LLC to be equivalent to the NIOSH 582 course. The next class date has been set for the end of August 2012- will we see you here?

We want to congratulate our staff member Russell Clay on passing his Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) exam. Russell has been with us for over three years and continues to take on more responsibilities. We are constantly striving to provide you with the highest expertise and encourage our employees to grow in their knowledge and qualifications.
Ingrid Zubieta, one of our CIHs, was invited to participate in an intense conference in San Francisco on September 22nd and 23rd, the focus was on improving the health of California's low wage workers. We are excited about her participating in the 2011 California Wellness Foundation Conference on Wellness and Health.

Health Science Associates (HSA) of Los Alamitos, CA., has sold its Laboratory Division to EMSL Analytical, Inc., doing business as LA Testing, Inc. The acquisition includes a complete transfer of all lab equipment, instruments, supplies, lab facilities, accreditations / certifications and key laboratory personnel. HSA was conceived originally to specialize in the industrial hygiene/occupational health field. It continues to provide the highest degree of competence, experience and services available in this field today. However, it quickly became apparent that occupational health and occupational safety were inseparable issues in the workplace and that an integrated approach was essential. Therefore, HSA offers the full scope of occupational health and safety technical, training and advisory services consistent with CAL/OSHA and Federal OSHA requirements.
This business transaction has been both amicable and mutually advantageous to both companies. "We're very excited about this business decision, it will allow Health Science Associates to turn its full attention to providing the full scope of quality industrial hygiene, safety and training services to California's public and private sector as it has done for over 30 years.
